Book Review: Same Kind of Different as Me

Same Kind of Different as Me by Ron Hall and Denver Moore

This book tells the unbelievable, but true story of two unlikely friends – Ron Hall and Denver Moore. Denver, a man raised in modern-day slavery in Louisiana in the 1960s and Ron, a banker turned international art dealer, come together in this emotional and convicting tale.

Same Kind of Different as Me is told in two voices, each man writing alternating chapters in the story, which quickly draws the reader in. You find yourself growing up and living life in two very different worlds, that actually existed only a few hundred miles away from each other. This book is definitely a must-read; one that will challenge Christ-followers everywhere to examine their life to see if they’re really living as Christ would have them live. The Bible calls us to take care of the poor among us, especially in Proverbs 28:27: “He who gives to the poor will lack nothing, but he who closes his eyes to them receives many curses.” Ron and Denver challenge us to open our eyes to the needs around us and truly be the hands and feet of Jesus as we take care of those needs.
